Who I Coach
Investor-backed technology, biotech, and climate tech CEOs and executives who want to become better leaders. Typically, I first engage when a leader faces challenges and opportunities driven by growth or other changes. That point is often around product/market fit (Series A or B), but it can be earlier or later.
About Me
Over the course of 30 years building successful companies, I discovered one of the activities I like most is helping other leaders learn and grow. As a coach, I bring extensive experience in startups. I’ve helped build seven companies including a unicorn, two IPOs, and several acquisitions. I’ve also experienced big failures. During my career, I’ve worn a lot of hats including co-founder, executive, VC investor, director, and CEO (see LinkedIn).

In addition to my leadership experience, I’ve trained as a professional coach and done advising and coaching for more than a decade. My work as a coach is also informed by experiences outside of business such as studying meditation at monasteries in Thailand, racing sailboats through winter storms in New England, and working with international peacebuilding NGOs seeking to end violent conflicts around the world.
My Approach
Leaders grow when they combine four basic activities into a continuous process: gaining insight, learning new competencies, practicing intentionally, and getting feedback. In the work I do with CEOs, I help support each of these activities through a combination of dialogue-based coaching, practical skill building, supporting accountability, and gathering feedback. Along the way, lots of issues come up in the moment, and I'm happy to work with you on those as they arise.

Every leader faces unique challenges and brings their own leadership style. I adapt to the needs of each leader as well as the current context, challenges, and opportunities in their work and life (see FAQ for more details).
Basic Process

Some leaders choose to start with a 360, but it’s not required (see FAQ).

We'll organize our work together into 4-6 month cycles

I’ll help you set goals for the growth you want to accomplish in each cycle.

Typically, we’ll meet 2 times per month for 60 minutes on Zoom.

Sessions will be when we do most of the intensive coaching work.

I’ll help you stay accountable to the commitments you make.

We’ll regularly assess the results and impact.
Getting Started
​I like to start with an informal initial meeting (no fee) to confirm the personal connection and talk broadly about your goals for coaching. If we both decide to work together, we'll organize a kick-off session to get started (see FAQ).
